**When purchasing a cordless tool, be sure to look at whether or not it comes with a battery. You’ll need a battery and a charger if you don’t already have one. If you do have one already (the advantage of having other tools of the same brand) then you can save some money and purchase your new tool without a battery, usually marked as “tool only” or “bare tool”.
0.) Power Drill- Ok, why #0? The way I see it is a power drill is one of the most basic tools that is useful and necessary long before other power tools come into play. That’s why I included it in my last post discussing the most basic tools (click here to read more about that). That said, it absolutely earns it’s place on any list of must-have power tools, so I couldn’t resist giving it a little shout out!
1.) Miter Saw
Why You Need It:
A miter saw is an essential tool for making precise crosscuts and miter cuts in wood. It’s perfect for projects that require angled cuts, such as picture frames, molding, and trim work. Some people sometimes call this a “chop saw”.

My Tip:
Practice making cuts on scrap wood to get comfortable with adjusting the angles and handling the saw. You don’t need a saw with a lot of bells and whistles when you’re just starting out. And, as with the use of any power tool, always remember to wear safety glasses!

2.) Circular Saw
Why You Need It:

My Tip:

When cutting (“ripping”) sheets of plywood, consider using a sheet of rigid foam insulation underneath as a sacrificial layer- this can be used over and over, will create a stable surface for your wood and prevent damage to your blade.
